Parent Association and SLT

As a school community we are participating in an important initiative called Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS). It seeks to reduce or eliminate poor behavior school wide through the encouragement of positive behaviors. PBIS decreases office discipline referrals, increases instructional time, and improves student achievement. This intentional focus on positive reinforcement is creating and maintaining a positive school climate for the students and teachers. PBIS Rewards is a digital platform that allows our staff members to recognize any student, anywhere for meeting behavior expectations. As a school we have identified Respect, Responsibility and Readiness as cultural pillars. When your child displays the behavior that is expected, they are recognized for it. The points earned through that recognition may be used to purchase items from the school’s PBIS store. As a parent, you can monitor your child’s progress and stay engaged with the PBIS Rewards Parent App! Download it for free on Google Play, the App Store, or Amazon Apps. Adding your child is simple. During Parent Teacher Conferences you will receive a code that will enable you to see your child’s progress. Parent Teacher Conferences 

We will hold 4 parent-teacher conferences on the following dates:

  • September 18, 2025 - Back to School Bash/ Meet the Teacher
  • November 13, 2025 - Virtual Parent Teacher Conferences
  • March 12, 2026 - In Person Student Led Conferences
  • May 14, 2026 - Virtual Parent Teacher Conferences

Progress/Report Cards

Report cards are provided to students 4 times a year on the dates below:

  • November 13, 2025
  • January 15, 2026
  • March 12, 2026
  • June 26, 2026

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I want to reach my child during the school day?

We want our students to be engaged in their learning. If you need to contact your child during the school day, contact the main office at 718 294-8504

What if there is a school emergency?

In case of a school emergency, we direct our students to safety first, following our school emergency preparedness protocol.

Will my child’s phone be safe?

Students are in possession of their phone - in their Yondr pouch - for the entire school day. We will advise students to store the pouch in their backpacks where it is completely safe.

What if the Yondr pouch gets lost or damaged?

The Yondr pouch is property of MSTA 318. If a student intentionally damages or loses a Yondr Pouch, families are required to replace the damaged pouch at a cost of $30.

What if a student gets caught violating MSTA/State Law policy?

If a student is caught using their phone, MSTA Administration will:

  • 1st infraction - Phone will be confiscated from student and returned at the end of the day
  • 2nd infraction - Phone will be confiscated from student and returned to the parent
  • 3rd Infraction – Phone will be confiscated, followed by a meeting with Administration and appropriate disciplinary consequences.

Note: Damage consists of any signs that the physical integrity of the pouch has been compromised, whether intentional or unintentional, as determined by the school or Yondr staff.
